What is Retreading?
Retreading is a process where carefully selected and inspected worn tires, known as “casings,” are given a new tread. This process is both environmentally friendly and cost-effective, extending the life of tires while reducing waste.
Veguma’s Retreading Process
At Veguma, we specialize in the cold vulcanization method, which is known for its durability and precision. Here’s how we ensure every tire meets our strict quality standards:
Initial Inspection
Each casing undergoes a thorough inspection to ensure it's suitable for retreading.
Buffing & Skiving
We remove the old tread from the tire, preparing it for the new one.
Repair & Cementing
Any punctures are repaired with patches. We then apply an adhesive cement coat to ensure a strong bond.
Filling the Injury & Preparing the Tread
Injuries are filled with extruded rope rubber, preparing the tire for the next steps.
Building
The new tread is applied to the casing using advanced machinery for a precise fit.
Tire Preparation
The tire is placed inside a specialized envelope to prepare it for vulcanization.
Curing
The tire is vulcanized in a chamber, where the tread securely bonds to the casing.
Final Inspection
Every tire goes through a final quality check to ensure it meets our high standards.
The price of tire retreading
The cost of retreading your tires, regardless of size, brand and tread type, is 155 - 185 EUR + VAT/piece.
Why Retread Tires?
Cost-Effective
Retreading can save you up to 50% compared to the cost of a brand-new tire. Premium quality retreads offer exceptional value and long-term savings.
Environmentally Friendly
Retreading consumes significantly less oil compared to manufacturing a new tire, helping conserve natural resources and reducing waste. This process also minimizes the number of tires sent to landfills.
Reliable & Safe
Retreads are trusted in high-stakes applications like airplanes, school buses, and emergency vehicles. With proper maintenance, retreaded tires are just as safe and reliable as new ones.
Retread Facts & Figures
Up to 3x:
Many large fleets retread their tires multiple times, getting more value from each casing.
~44%:
Nearly 44% of commercial tires in operation are retreaded tires.
Up to 90%:
Large fleets across the U.S. and Canada regularly use retreads.
~15 Million:
Commercial retreaded tires are produced annually.
68 Liters Saved:
Each retread saves around 68 liters of oil compared to manufacturing a new tire.
635,000
Metric Tons:
Retreading helps divert 635,000 metric tons of waste from landfills annually.
Energy Efficient:
The energy saved during retread manufacturing could power 29,000 homes for one hour.
500% Longer Wear:
A premium tire and retread combination lasts significantly longer than low-cost new tires.
10% Better Fuel Efficiency:
Quality retreads often provide improved rolling resistance, helping to reduce fuel costs.
